IndiGo Cuts Fuel Charges Leading To Drop In Airfare

Travelers are in for some good news, as IndiGo, a popular low-cost airline in India, has decided to remove extra fuel charges. This change has led to cheaper flight tickets, say UAE travel agents.

“Thanks to IndiGo’s decision, we’re seeing ticket prices for places like Delhi, Mumbai, and some areas in Kerala drop below Dh400,” explained Praveen Chowdhary from Saffron Travel and Tourism. He added that this price drop isn’t just for a few places, but for many other routes too.

IndiGo made this announcement last Thursday. They said that since the cost of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) has gone down recently, they don’t need to charge extra for fuel anymore. The airline also mentioned that they’ll keep adjusting their prices depending on how fuel costs and market conditions change.

Afi Ahmed from Smart Travels noticed this change too. He said, “With the fuel charges gone, ticket prices have gone down by up to 4 percent. And because it’s not a busy travel season now, the tickets to India are really affordable.”

IndiGo started adding a fuel charge to all its flights, both in India and internationally, back in October 2023. This was because ATF prices were going up for several months. They were charging around Dh15 to Dh50 extra per ticket. But from November, ATF prices started decreasing, which is good news for both airlines and travelers.

Praveen believes that other budget airlines might do the same as IndiGo. He said, “I think at least one more airline will drop their fuel charges. So, we can expect even more affordable ticket prices soon.”
