The National Newborn Screening Guidelines have been formally released by the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) in an effort to improve and harmonise national newborn medical examination protocols with best practices from around the world. The guidelines identify designated reference laboratories across the country and standardise the list of necessary laboratory and clinical tests in an effort to prevent early health complications.
High-profile figures attended the launch event, including members of the National Newborn Screening Committee from the public and private health sectors, as well as Dr. Suad Al Awar, Head of the Ministry’s Family Health Department, and Dr. Nada Hassan Al Marzouqi, Director of the Public Health and Prevention Department.
Through the use of continuous quality improvement principles, the recently released guide seeks to standardise the level of care provided to all newborns. It offers dependable and transparent screening methods and processes, such as the identification, diagnosis, and treatment of illnesses that may have an effect on a newborn’s health or long-term survival and call for appropriate referrals.
It is anticipated that these actions will increase the ability of healthcare professionals while also dramatically lowering the rates of morbidity and mortality among neonates. The guidelines also stress the significance of health awareness, providing parental guidance and health education to guarantee that kids can live healthy lives from the beginning.
