Dubai's 'A Dubai Invite' Tourism Scheme Closes Registrations After Record 90,000 Applications

Dubai's 'A Dubai Invite' Tourism Scheme Closes Registrations After Record 90,000 Applications

A Tourism Campaign That Outgrew Its Own Ambitions

Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) has officially closed registrations for its flagship “A Dubai Invite” campaign after the initiative drew an overwhelming response from the emirate’s resident community, with more than 90,000 applications submitted since it launched in July. The scale of interest forced organisers to more than triple the number of benefit packages originally available, in what officials have described as an “exceptional response.”

The scheme, which ran from July 20 and remains active for registered participants until October 31, invited Dubai residents to act as informal ambassadors for the city by encouraging friends and family living abroad to visit. In return, residents who successfully registered visitors received a package of perks worth up to Dh3,000, including discounted hotel stays, dining offers, and free or reduced-price tickets to some of Dubai’s most popular attractions.

Why Dubai Launched the Campaign

The initiative was conceived, in part, as a response to a more challenging operating environment for the region’s travel and tourism sector this year. Escalating tension involving Iran has disrupted air travel and dented sentiment across parts of the Gulf, creating headwinds for a tourism industry that had, in 2025, delivered a record 19.59 million international visitors to Dubai. Against that backdrop, DET turned to residents themselves as a marketing channel, leaning on the emirate’s uniquely diverse population — home to people from close to 200 different nationalities — to generate word-of-mouth visits from friends and family overseas.

Officials at DET say the campaign’s underlying logic reflects a broader recognition of the value residents bring to what is known in the tourism industry as the “visiting friends and relatives,” or VFR, segment. Unlike traditional tourists responding to advertising campaigns, visitors who come at the invitation of someone they know arrive with a built-in, trusted local guide — someone who can offer a genuinely personal perspective on the city that no marketing campaign could easily replicate.

From Modest Start to Runaway Success

When “A Dubai Invite” first launched, the number of available benefit packages was set at a considerably more modest level than the eventual total. However, as applications began pouring in from residents keen to take advantage of the offer, DET and its partner organisations opted to expand the programme’s capacity by more than three times its original scope in order to meet demand. To date, more than 30,000 benefit packages have already been distributed to residents whose registered guests have travelled to Dubai.

A senior DET official overseeing the initiative said the scale of the response underscored just how enthusiastic residents were about sharing their adopted home city with the people closest to them, describing residents as some of Dubai’s strongest advocates thanks to the authenticity of their first-hand recommendations.

What Happens Next for Registered Participants

While new applications are no longer being accepted, the programme is far from over for those who successfully registered before the cut-off. Visitors who have already been signed up under the scheme can still travel to Dubai until October 31, 2026, and residents will continue to receive their allocated benefits within 72 hours of a registered guest’s arrival. Crucially, the perks themselves — including hotel, dining and attraction discounts — will remain valid for use at participating venues until the end of December 2026, giving both hosts and their visiting guests a generous window to make use of the offers.

Part of a Wider Tourism Push

“A Dubai Invite” is not an isolated initiative. It sits alongside other resident-focused tourism marketing efforts, including the “Dubai. If You Go, You Know” campaign, which similarly leans on the personal experiences and recommendations of people already living in the city to inspire visits from abroad. Collectively, these campaigns form part of Dubai’s broader strategy under its Economic Agenda D33, which aims to cement the emirate’s position among the world’s best cities to visit, live and work in.

DET has indicated it intends to continue collaborating with tourism partners and Dubai’s diverse resident communities to strengthen the VFR segment further, framing the closure of “A Dubai Invite” registrations not as the end of the strategy, but as validation that resident-driven tourism promotion has a meaningful and lasting role to play in the emirate’s broader visitor economy ambitions.
