We came into contact with Bassel Ounah, the owner of APNEA ZONE. He is an inspirational entrepreneur who never gives up. He turned his passion into a career and currently helps enhance awareness about underwater activities to people through APNEA ZONE. Check out the interview to learn more about Bassel Ounah.
We started by asking Bassel about his career journey and advice for beginners. He replies, “How did you begin your career journey? Do you have some advice for beginners?”
“I was inspired by my passion and turned it into a career. I had to be patient while growing the business because it took a long time to see any significant results. I recommend that newbies view failure as an opportunity to grow and learn.” Bassel.
Goals & Key Services
What’s the goal of your company? We asked.
“Our goal is to raise awareness about underwater activity and encourage more people to take up freediving as a hobby or competitive sport. We ensure we maintain the highest levels of safety while training our customers in the activity of their choice,” says Bassel.
We asked him about their services and upcoming plans. He replies, “We provide four key services: Freediving, Scuba Diving, Spearfishing, and Mermaid courses. We organize corporate team events, underwater shows, and snorkelling trips. And conduct workshops on breathing techniques. I recently discovered the exciting game of underwater hockey and might decide to make that part of our offerings in the future.”
Technology And Innovation
How do you think technology is leading to changes in businesses? Do you feel it’s helping your company grow?
“Technology not only allows us to reach people all over the world, but it has also made our teaching process more interactive.
We completed the preparatory portion of our training online during covid-19. We did presentations and deep dive visualization exercises to mentally prepare students before they arrived at camp.
This allowed students to begin their practical classes as soon as they arrived, which was beneficial to both local participants and those travelling from outside of Dubai.
We plan to make further use of technology to enhance participant experience and prepare them mentally and physically for their time underwater.” he further continues.
When we asked, “Do you use innovative ideas to be unique?” he replied:
“Every student is unique. They come with different ideas, expectations and thought processes. We don’t use a ‘one size fits all’ approach during training.
We focus on developing personal relationships and teaching them how to relax and improve their underwater skills in a safe environment.
Challenges & Team Motivation
What keeps your company moving forward even during challenges?
“All team members are passionate about what they do and are dedicated to participant safety and wellbeing. Our constant pursuit of new and creative ways to provide exceptional service keeps us moving forward.” Bassel replied.
What makes the team successful, in your opinion? We asked Bassel.
“I believe that respect, communication and setting clear goals are crucial for the team’s success,” he said.
He also shares his views on how to motivate, “How do you motivate your team to go the extra mile?”
“I lead by example, give people the opportunity to grow their skills, and provide them with
constructive feedback to cut short their learning curve.”
“Would you like to say anything else to our viewers?” We asked.
“We tailor training to each participant’s needs, assisting them in breaking out of their comfort zone and progressing in a safe manner. I’d like to see more people recognize the ocean as a part of mother nature and recognize the value of being connected to it,” he replied.
