Two world titles and one unbeaten record are on the line on Saturday when the UFC returns to Etihad Arena on Yas Island for UFC 333, the centrepiece of Abu Dhabi Showdown Week.
Featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski headlines the card against undefeated number one contender Movsar Evloev. The co-main event brings a second championship fight, with bantamweight champion Petr Yan facing Merab Dvalishvili in the third chapter of one of the division’s defining rivalries.
A champion against a perfect record
Volkanovski arrives with a record of 28 wins and four defeats. Evloev is the only unbeaten contender in his weight class, with 20 wins from 20 fights, and he has waited a long time for this opportunity. Volkanovski, for his part, has said Evloev has plenty to offer but not enough to take his belt.
Betting analysts have described the main event as razor-close, which reflects the difficulty of separating a veteran champion from a challenger who has never lost. Fighters have spent the week at open workouts at Yas Mall, where fans gathered to see the headliners up close.
Yan and Dvalishvili: one win each
The co-main event has the sharper story. Dvalishvili defeated Yan in 2023, before Yan levelled the rivalry with a unanimous-decision victory at UFC 323 in December 2025, reclaiming the bantamweight title. Yan, who has 20 wins and five losses, now defends the belt against the man he took it from, and Abu Dhabi will decide a series that has so far gone one apiece.
Deep card and big stage
The undercard offers plenty of depth. The main card includes Aaron Pico against Losene Keita at featherweight, while Lone’er Kavanagh meets Ramazan Temirov. It will be the 12th UFC event staged at Etihad Arena and the 24th UFC show in Abu Dhabi. The event is organised in association with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, continuing a partnership that has made the emirate a regular fixture on the UFC calendar.
For Abu Dhabi, the appeal goes beyond a single night. Showdown Week combines fan events, open workouts and the fights themselves, drawing visitors to Yas Island and putting the capital in front of a global audience. Tickets went on sale in August, and VIP packages with premium seating and athlete meet-and-greets have also been offered.
How to watch
In the United States, the card streams live on Paramount+ with no pay-per-view charge. In the Middle East and North Africa, it is broadcast live and exclusively on STARZPLAY. According to UFC.com, the main card begins at 2pm Eastern time, which is late Saturday evening in the UAE, with prelims and early prelims earlier in the day.
What to watch for
Volkanovski’s experience in championship rounds will be tested by an opponent whose record suggests he rarely loses exchanges. If Evloev can impose his pace over five rounds, he could finally turn a long unbeaten run into a title. If the champion’s pressure and adaptability hold, an unbeaten record could end in the sport’s most visible setting.
In the bantamweight bout, familiarity is the defining factor. Both men know each other’s habits after two contests, and small adjustments rather than dramatic changes are likely to decide it. A third meeting with the series level at one win each carries a particular weight, because the winner will own both the belt and the rivalry.
Whatever happens, the night is expected to deliver the high-stakes combat that Abu Dhabi crowds have come to expect from the UFC.
