The ‘one-day test’ initiative for obtaining a driving licence is back, albeit in a different emirate, following a successful run in Sharjah and Fujairah. A programme to make it easier for national service recruits to obtain driver’s licences has been launched by Ras Al Khaimah Police through its Centre for Traffic and Licencing at the Automotive and Driver Licencing Department.
According to the emirate’s police on Wednesday, the fast-tracked procedure, which is slated to run from July to December 2024, offers a streamlined process where soldiers can finish eye tests as well as internal and external practical testing in a single day.
The one-day test service was introduced to save national service soldiers’ time and effort, as opposed to having them spend several days obtaining a driving licence, according to Colonel Saqir bin Sultan Al-Qasimi, Director of the Department of Machinery and Drivers Licencing of the Ras Al Khaimah Police.
One can get a driving licence in just one day by combining the theory, internal and external (on-road) tests into one day, passing the theory exam, finishing the necessary training hours, the assessment and the motorway tests.
The one-day driving test was also announced by Sharjah last year. Subsequently, Sharjah Police disclosed that in just two weeks, 194 trainees—male and female—benefited from the One-Day Test Initiative throughout the emirate.
