Due to Civil Unrest in Bangladesh, Emirates has Cancelled Flights to Dhaka

Emirates, a Dubai-based company, has cancelled flights to Dhaka because of the continuous civil unrest in Bangladesh. The following flights have been cancelled for August 5 and 6.

  • EK587/August 5 – Dhaka to Dubai
  • EK584/August 5 – Dubai to Dhaka
  • EK585/August 6 – Dhaka to Dubai

The airline stated that they are keeping a careful eye on the situation. For rebooking options, customers who made direct reservations with Emirates can contact their local office. Emirates advised those who made reservations through travel agencies to contact them for different travel options.

The airline advised that customers can get the most recent flight updates by visiting the ‘Manage Your Booking’ page. In 2023, Etihad Airways stopped offering flights to Dhaka.

Following massive protests on Sunday that claimed nearly 100 lives, Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced her resignation and left the nation on Monday, capping her 15-year tenure.

Reviving job quotas for highly sought-after civil service positions catalysed the unrest that erupted across the country in July. There was a curfew, telecommunication line disruptions, and internet suspension. The military was also called in to end the disturbance.

After the Supreme Court struck down the quotas, protests came to a halt, but they quickly picked back up again as people took to the streets to demand justice for the families of those slain during the unrest.
