Dubai: After Videos of Road Stunts go Viral, a Driver is Arrested and Fined Dh50,000

The Dubai Police have arrested a young driver after videos showing him performing “reckless stunts” went viral on social media. The police have seized the car used for the stunts, and they are demanding Dh50,000 to release it. Among the stunts he performed was drifting and driving the car on two wheels while navigating a roundabout.

Deputy director of the General Department of Traffic, Brig Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, stated that the driver was promptly identified and called. He acknowledged engaging in stunt-like behaviour.

Drivers in Dubai who commit major traffic offences, such as reckless driving and running red lights, must pay a fine of Dh50,000 before their impounded cars are released.

If the car is impounded once more within a year of the offence date, the amount due to be paid to have it released could be doubled. This provision is applicable in situations where the amount released does not surpass Dh200,000, as per the Dubai traffic law that was initially put into effect in July of last year. The law penalises those who endanger lives or damage roads with heavy fines and vehicle impoundment for varying periods,” the Dubai Police had earlier stated.
