A Rare Ferrari Stolen in 1995 From a Formula One Racer was Recovered by UK Police.

British police said Monday that they had recovered a Ferrari stolen from Austrian Formula One racer Gerhard Berger in Italy over three decades ago.

The red Ferrari F512M was one of two sports cars stolen while their drivers were in Imola for the San Marino Grand Prix in April 1995.
Neither was ever discovered, until the manufacturer informed London’s Metropolitan Police department in January that a Ferrari being sold to a US customer by a UK broker had been reported as a stolen vehicle.

The Organized Vehicle Crime Unit of the force investigated and discovered that the car was transported to Britain from Japan in late 2023. Officers seized the automobile, which the force said was worth around 350,000 pounds ($444,000).

“Our inquiries were painstaking and included contacting authorities from around the world,” said Constable Mike Pilbeam, who oversaw the inquiry.”We worked quickly with partners, including the National Crime Agency, as well as Ferrari and international car dealerships, and this collaboration was instrumental in understanding the vehicle’s background and stopping it from leaving the country.”
