Oman Air Launches First Direct Flights Between Muscat and Tashkent to Strengthen Central Asia Connectivity

Muscat, Oman — Oman’s national airline, Oman Air, has announced a new international service that will forge a direct air link between Muscat, the capital of the Sultanate of Oman, and Tashkent, the bustling capital of Uzbekistan, starting 1 June 2026, marking a major expansion of the carrier’s network into Central Asia. This represents a significant step in enhancing connectivity between the Gulf region and Uzbekistan, a country increasingly drawing global attention for its tourism potential and economic growth.

The twice-weekly flights will operate non-stop between Muscat International Airport (MCT) and Tashkent International Airport (TAS) , providing a vital new link between two culturally rich capitals. With an approximate flight duration of around four hours, the service will offer convenient direct travel for both leisure and business passengers who previously had to connect through third countries. Oman Air says its new service is part of an overarching strategy to grow its global footprint and support travel demand between Oman and emerging markets such as Uzbekistan.

A Strategic New Route in Central Asia

The new Muscat–Tashkent service underscores Oman Air’s ambition to tap into Central Asia’s growing travel potential, a region that has become increasingly accessible and attractive to international visitors. Uzbekistan, strategically located at the heart of the region and historically a key hub along the ancient Silk Road, has seen a remarkable rise in tourism and business activity in recent years as the country opens up to the world. Direct flights between the two capitals will make travel simpler and more efficient for tourists, business travellers, and expatriates alike.

Officials from Oman Air highlight that the new route will not only broaden the airline’s route map but also support bilateral ties between Oman and Uzbekistan, strengthening a relationship with significant untapped potential. By strengthening air connectivity, the airline anticipates that cultural, economic, and educational exchanges between the two nations will accelerate, fostering long-term collaborations across multiple sectors.

“This new direct service to Tashkent reflects our continued focus on building a commercially sustainable network that balances strong demand with strategic growth markets,” said Con Korfiatis, Chief Executive Officer of Oman Air, in remarks reported by aviation news outlets. He added that Central Asia represents an increasingly relevant region for both inbound and outbound travel, and the airline expects the route to play a key role in supporting Oman’s broader tourism and business goals.

Part of Broader Network Expansion

The Muscat–Tashkent service will be the eighth new destination that Oman Air has unveiled since late 2025, bolstering its international network across diverse global regions and demonstrating the airline’s post-pandemic growth trajectory. The airline has been actively adding routes and reinforcing services to meet evolving traveller needs, aligning with its mission to make Muscat a more connected global aviation hub that can compete with regional giants.

Passengers flying on the new route can expect Oman Air’s signature onboard experience, which includes modern aircraft, premium service, and the warmth of Omani hospitality — elements long associated with the airline’s brand and valued by travellers. According to recent flight booking pages, fares for travel between Muscat and Tashkent have already become available for booking through the airline’s website, signalling strong readiness for the launch and allowing passengers to plan ahead.

Enhancing Tourism, Commerce, and Cultural Ties

The introduction of direct flights between the two capitals is expected to bring multiple benefits that extend far beyond aviation. For tourism, it opens up a direct gateway for travellers in the Gulf region to explore Uzbekistan’s unique cultural heritage, including the legendary cities of Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva, as well as Tashkent’s Soviet-era architecture and dynamic urban life. Likewise, tourists from Uzbekistan and neighbouring Central Asian markets will find it easier to visit Oman’s scenic landscapes, historic forts, and vibrant coastal destinations.

From a commercial perspective, improved connectivity could spur business travel, trade missions, and investment exchanges between the two countries, creating economic opportunities. Enhanced accessibility often translates into greater opportunities for companies seeking to explore new markets or partnerships, particularly in sectors such as logistics, education, and tourism where both nations have strengths.

Culturally, the service reinforces people-to-people links between two nations with rich histories and traditions that deserve to be better connected. As global travel continues to rebound and evolve post-pandemic, such pioneering routes play an increasingly vital role in shaping regional aviation networks and fostering cross-border relationships.

Looking Ahead

As Oman Air prepares for the June 2026 launch, the new Muscat–Tashkent service strengthens the airline’s presence on international routes and reflects its commitment to long-term growth in an increasingly competitive market. With Central Asia emerging as a promising travel destination and business region, Oman Air’s expanded connectivity could well usher in a new chapter of engagement — bridging the Gulf with the heart of Asia in ways that benefit both regions.

For travellers, the new route offers an exciting opportunity to explore two fascinating destinations with ease.
