Dubai: RTA Explains That the New Bus Lane with Broken Yellow Lines is "Temporary"

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) made it clear on Tuesday that “there is ongoing study to make a final decision to utilise this bus lane” and that the designated bus lane along First Al Khail St. in Al Quoz is only temporary.

According to RTA, the bus lanes were established “for transporting those affected between Metro stations during the Metro closures (following heavy rains on April 16)” Khaleej Times.

On First Al Khail Street in Al Quoz, a new bus-only lane has been added. Drivers who choose to use it risk receiving a Dh600 fine.

However, it lacks the recognizable solid yellow lines and bright red markings found on Khalid Bin Al Waleed Road, Al Ghubaiba Road, and Naif Street.

There are broken yellow lines in the bus lane on First Al Khail Street to allow for vehicles turning right onto Latifa Bint Hamdan St. heading towards Al Khail Road or using the service road close to the Galadari office.

A solid yellow line indicates that passing is prohibited; vehicles must not veer to the left or right of this line.

When a yellow line is broken, a driver may cross it to change lanes or pass another car; however, if they are on the solid line, they must not cross.

According to road safety experts and commuters alike, the installation of dedicated bus lanes will increase the dependability of public bus transportation in Dubai.
