In Sharjah, free parking is now available to Persons of Determination (PoD) without requiring them to hide their ID cards behind the windshields of their vehicles. These cards will now be automatically connected to the public parking system of the municipality.
In order to avoid penalties for not paying parking fees, PoD cards had to be kept visible. But occasionally, cards placed on dashboards can escape the notice of patrol cameras and scanning cars.
PoD cards would now by default be registered with the Sharjah City Municipality under the new integrated system.
“Smart inspections of public parking lots are crucial to the municipality, but scanning cars can only read license plates. Accordingly, cards for “people of determination,” which are frequently positioned in front of cars, are out of the vehicles’ reading range, according to Hamed Al Qaed, director of the Sharjah City Municipality’s Public Parking Department.
“This results in parking violations being recorded against people of determination, who are supposed to get free parking,” he stated. The problem is resolved by the new automated service.
PoD card holders are advised by Al Qaed to register in their integrated public parking system so they can use all parking lots at no cost and don’t have to leave their cards in their cars.
“It adds more flexibility for people with disabilities when using Sharjah City parking lots and saves them time and effort,” he stated.
