Police in Abu Dhabi Alert the Public to Social Media Frauds that take Advantage of Events

The Abu Dhabi Police (ADP) have warned over phony calls and social media connections to phony websites that prey on people by using occasions, events, and activities as a pretext to entice them with phony perks, services, and temptations.

ADP brought attention to the new ways that dishonest con artists are tricking people by utilizing false information. These con artists steal money from their victims by accessing their bank account information and then using it to commit other frauds, such as making withdrawals of their balances.

Police alerted people not to click on dubious links and not to divulge any private information to third parties. This includes passwords, personal identification numbers for ATMs, card details, account information, and online banking passwords. They also emphasized that bank staff will never request this kind of information.

The public is advised to report any calls from strangers requesting to update their banking information to the nearest police station as soon as possible. They can also support the police’s efforts to stop these fraudulent methods and shield the community from their risks by texting “2828” to 8002626 or calling the security service at 8002626.

In order to guarantee the effectiveness of eliminating dangerous websites with electronic codes aimed at their savings and to avoid giving in to deceptive temptations, ADP also demanded the activation of protective programs.
