Meet The 'Renowned' Cats Lurking Around Dubai Expo City, Including Thomas Shelby, Shakira, and Darth Vader

Expo City Dubai is home to a diverse range of people, such as Thomas Shelby, Shakira, and Darth Vader. Expo City’s pet-friendly policies allow these cats to roam freely throughout the busy metropolis.

Thomas Shelby is constantly fighting, but the infamous Darth Vader needs to be saved from the top of a building by a lift. Fred, the workplace pet, consistently leaves his twin George behind when he climbs into a buggy that passes by.

The location is home to over eighty cats, and multiple “cat condos” (cat houses) with towers, scratching posts, and food stations are situated in the grassy and sheltered regions for the cats’ enjoyment. To manage their number, the TNR method—trap, neuter, and release—has been used on every cat.

Faida Sabouneh, an animal lover and Expo City’s food safety and sustainability manager, is the project’s creator. She claims that Paulina and several other cats have repaired spots. “She is the Rove reception cat,” she affirmed. “She is stationed outside the hotel doors and sometimes saunters inside to interact with the guests and children.”

Faida has to work hard for the duration of the program. “I have a spreadsheet of every cat on site, along with their names and any medical conditions they have,” she explained. However, my coworkers are also a big source of support for me. I got permission from one of them to install the cat houses and feeding stations.”
