The President of the UAE announces a Five-Year global Competition to Reduce Water Scarcity.

The Honorable The announcement of a partnership between the Mohamed Bin Zayed Water Initiative and XPRIZE, with a $150 million investment to launch the XPRIZE Water Scarcity competition with a $119 million total prize purse, was witnessed on Friday by Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates.

The five-year international competition aims to inspire inventors everywhere to concentrate on improving the sustainability, affordability, and dependability of water desalination technology.

The goal of the Mohamed Bin Zayed Water Initiative is to bring water scarcity to the attention of the world community and to expedite the development, testing, and large-scale implementation of innovative and sustainable technological solutions to mitigate the threats that it poses to individuals, organizations, and communities around the globe. To meet this growing challenge, the initiative, in collaboration with its partners, aims to maximize the potential of focused investment, quicker technology innovation, and increased international cooperation.
