The Foreign Affairs Committee of the Turkish Parliament has said that it will talk about Sweden’s NATO candidacy the following week.
The committee announced in a statement on Friday that the bid assessment will take place on December 26, according to Xinhua news agency.
The NATO membership document for Sweden was signed by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and presented to the Parliament in October.
Before the bill is presented to a vote by the entire Parliament, it must be approved by the commission.
Following the start of Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine in February 2022, Sweden and Finland applied in May to become members of NATO.
Turkey has been sluggish to ratify Sweden’s NATO membership, despite having approved Finland’s in March. This is because Ankara has been pressing Sweden to address its security concerns.
