Senior Emirati officials in the public and private sectors claim that government workers in the UAE are moving to the private sector because both now provide the same schedule, flexibility, and compensation.
Senior officials stated during a panel discussion that government workers are moving to the private sector in quest of opportunities for professional advancement and growth, despite the fact that UAE citizens had previously preferred the public sector.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization recently released data showing that since 2021, the number of UAE nationals working in the private sector has increased by 170 percent, or 96,000 people.
The public and private sectors engage in a healthy competition and mutual learning occurs. In terms of scheduling, flexibility, and pay, the public and private sectors have become increasingly similar. Sarah Al Bakeri, vice-president for human capital at Tabreed, stated at the second edition of “Making Emiratisation a Success Guide for 2024” that both sectors have flexibility, similar timings, and policies today.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MoHRE), staffing and HR solutions company TASC led the panel on Monday.
She mentioned that in the past, private companies used to offer lower pay and longer work hours, while the public sector used to offer higher pay and less work. However, the Covid-19 pandemic was a “moment of realisation” because it led to a greater emphasis on work-life balance in the private sector and the promotion of flexible options like remote working.
