While parents understand the need for safety in bad weather, they also voiced concerns about longer vacations cutting into instructional time, ultimately putting more strain on families, teachers, and children.
After three weeks of Spring and Eid holidays, students in international curriculum schools only returned to their classrooms on Monday, April 15. The last day of classes was March 22.
“The three-week break is excessive, not to mention the fact that we have to find activities for the children within that time, which is often expensive,” stated Natalia Miranda, an American living in Dubai. My son’s behavior tends to suffer when he gets too much screen time, so I have to make up for it. Fortunately, he could play outside for those three weeks because of the beautiful weather.
“It’s about safety, and nobody could have predicted the superstorm, so this doesn’t really bother me,” she continued. My kid and I are currently doing Zoom classes, but I have to sit with him throughout because he is still young. Sincerely, I’m experiencing flashbacks to the Covid confinement.
