Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk declared on Saturday that he was delaying his trip to India. The Tesla CEO was scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discuss significant investment plans.
The information was released the day after Musk’s electric vehicle business declared the recall of about 4,000 Cybertruck automobiles due to an acceleration pedal issue that raised the risk of crashes.
Following the government’s reduction of import taxes on electric vehicles last month for multinational automakers who pledged to invest $500 million and begin local manufacture within three years, Tesla was reportedly looking at potential locations for factories in India.
Additionally, the program drastically reduces import charges for up to 8,000 electric vehicles priced at $35,000 or more that businesses can import annually.
Until it decides where to locate a production line, Tesla may initially import vehicles from its Berlin factory, according to reports in Indian media.
Freedom of speech groups have questioned him over his social media platform allegedly giving in to the Indian government’s demands to remove critical messages.
When Musk last traveled to India in 2007, he called the nation “amazing” and stated that the Taj Mahal “truly is a wonder of the world.” Musk has identified himself as a supporter of Modi.
