In a remarkable turn of events this week, a man in his thirties was brought back to life 45 minutes after experiencing a cardiac arrest at Khorfakkan Hospital.
Initially, he had entered the hospital with concerns about an irregular heartbeat, which escalated into a sudden cardiac arrest. Swift action by doctors involved immediate cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), including 17 electrical shocks and 15 doses of heart-stimulating adrenaline to address a coronary artery thrombosis. A clot-dissolving agent was also administered during this critical period.
A cardiologist’s assessment, guided by Electrocardiogram (ECG) findings, revealed acute coronary blockage. Following the stabilization of the patient’s cardiac condition, he was moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and placed on a ventilator in preparation for a transfer to Fujairah Hospital. The Cardiology team at Fujairah Hospital confirmed a 100% success rate in dissolving the clot, with no blockages or clots in the coronary artery.
The patient returned to Khorfakkan Hospital for ongoing treatment, where a follow-up cardiac ultrasound during daily monitoring showed a significant improvement in cardiac function, reaching 55 percent. After stabilization, he transitioned to the Internal Medicine department, spending a total of 8 days in treatment—2 days in the ICU and 6 days in Internal Medicine.
In a testament to the effectiveness of the medical intervention, the patient was discharged in excellent health. The attending physician provided clear instructions on prescribed medications and scheduled follow-up appointments at the cardiology clinic.
