Extending Support To Important Causes
“October is Cancer Awareness Month, and as a successful entrepreneur, how do you see the role of business leaders and entrepreneurs in supporting important causes like cancer awareness?”
Lilian Atho asserts, “As an Entrepreneur, I believe that business leaders and entrepreneurs have a significant role to play in supporting important causes like cancer awareness. We can use our resources and financial success to support cancer research and awareness programs through philanthropic efforts. We also incorporate cancer awareness and support into our company’s CSR initiatives, which can be a powerful way to give back to the community.
Encouraging and facilitating employee involvement in cancer awareness initiatives can be an effective step too. We can offer paid volunteer hours for employees to support cancer-related causes. We can develop products and services that directly contribute to cancer awareness or prevention.
As influential figures in the business world, we can use our platforms and networks to raise awareness about cancer-related issues. Also, fostering a workplace culture that is supportive of employees affected by cancer is crucial involving flexible policies, emotional support programs, and healthcare benefits that cater to the needs of those dealing with cancer.”
Lilian Atho continued, “Further, by adopting environmentally sustainable and ethically responsible business practices, we can indirectly contribute to cancer prevention. We can leverage our marketing and advertising platforms to raise awareness about cancer prevention, early detection, and the importance of regular screenings.
Supporting cancer awareness is not a one-time effort. It’s a cause that requires ongoing commitment and dedication, and we should be dedicated to making a lasting difference and continually look for ways to support the cause. By integrating these efforts into our business strategies and practices, we can contribute to the fight against cancer while also fulfilling our corporate social responsibility.”
Breast Cancer Awareness: Contribution Of Women Entrepreneurs
Breast cancer affects millions of women worldwide. As a successful woman entrepreneur, what role do you believe women entrepreneurs can play in supporting breast cancer awareness and research?
Lilian Atho responds, “Women entrepreneurs have the unique ability to leverage their influence, resources, and creativity to make a substantial impact in the fight against breast cancer. By combining their business acumen with a passion for social responsibility, they can contribute to raising awareness, advancing research, and providing support to those affected by breast cancer, ultimately helping to improve the lives of millions of women worldwide.
I believe that women entrepreneurs can play a crucial role in supporting breast cancer awareness and research in several impactful ways. They can use their financial success and resources to donate to breast cancer research organizations and foundations, alongside organizing fundraising events, galas, or charity auctions to raise funds for the same. They can also develop and market products that promote breast health, early detection, and wellness including innovative breast self-examination tools, supportive undergarments for breast cancer patients, etc.”
“Another best way is that they can use their platforms to raise awareness about breast cancer while collaborating with the right institutions to foster research and awareness. Engaging with local communities is equally essential by supporting local breast cancer support groups, organizing community events, and others.
Women entrepreneurs can support or establish scholarship programs for students pursuing careers in oncology or cancer research. Moreover, directly funding breast cancer research projects can lead to breakthroughs in prevention, treatment, and cure. Women entrepreneurs can serve as mentors and role models for the next generation of women in business.” Lilian added.
Balancing Responsibilities With Healthcare
To learn more about how Lilian Atho balanced her work life and career altogether, we asked, “Many women face the challenge of balancing their careers with health concerns. Have you encountered situations where your entrepreneurial journey intersected with health-related issues, and how did you manage them?”
Lilian Atho passionately shares, “Balancing a career as an entrepreneur with health concerns is a challenge that many individuals, including myself, may encounter at some point in their entrepreneurial journey. Entrepreneurs often have demanding schedules, but when health concerns arise, it becomes crucial to prioritize well-being and temporarily shift from work to address health issues.
Delegating tasks and responsibilities to capable team members or hiring additional support during times of health-related challenges can help maintain business operations. Adjusting work hours or working from home, when necessary, can help to maintain productivity.
Also, entrepreneurs should not hesitate to seek professional medical advice and treatment when dealing with health concerns. Open and transparent communication with employees, partners, and clients is equally essential. Effective time management becomes even more critical during health-related challenges. They should also prioritize self-care, including maintaining a healthy lifestyle, getting adequate rest, and managing stress.”
Lilian Atho added, “A strong support network, which includes friends, family, and mentors, can provide emotional and practical support during health challenges. Building a sustainable business includes planning for unforeseen health-related interruptions. Ensure that you have appropriate health insurance and benefits in place to address medical expenses and provide a safety net in case of extended health-related breaks.
Every entrepreneur’s situation is unique, and the approach to managing health-related challenges will vary. What’s most important is recognizing when these issues arise and taking proactive steps to address them. Health is the foundation of success, and taking care of oneself should always be a priority, even in the demanding world of entrepreneurship.”
Promotion Of Early Detection
Early detection is crucial for effective cancer treatment. How can businesses and organizations like yours promote early detection among employees, clients, and the general public?
Lilian Atho responds, “Promoting early cancer detection is a vital mission for businesses and organizations, and there are several effective strategies they can employ to encourage early screening and awareness among employees, clients, and the general public. Use internal communication channels, such as newsletters, seminars, etc., to educate employees about the importance of early cancer detection.
Ensuring that your company’s health insurance plans cover preventive screenings and early detection measures, makes it more accessible for employees. Partnering with healthcare providers to offer on-site screenings at the workplace is another effective strategy. Encourage flexible work arrangements that allow employees to attend medical appointments without stress or fear of repercussions. And, organize health fairs or events that bring together everyone, while implementing incentive programs to motivate employees and clients to undergo early cancer screenings.”
“Establish partnerships with local healthcare providers, clinics, and hospitals to make early detection services more accessible to employees and clients. Creating or recommending apps and websites that help individuals track their health and schedule screenings can be helpful too.
Extend your organization’s efforts to the broader community by participating in or supporting community events focused on cancer awareness and early detection. Encourage company leaders to lead by example. If they prioritize their health and share their experiences with early detection, it can inspire others to do the same. And, maintain an ongoing dialogue about health and early detection within the organization.” She continued.
