The campaign of US Vice President Kamala Harris announced on Sunday that in the week since she entered the Democratic Party as their presidential candidate, the campaign has raised $200 million and recruited 170,000 new volunteers.
On Sunday of last week, President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the reelection race and endorsed Harris to face Republican former President Donald Trump on November 5.
Since we began, in just one week, @KamalaHarris has raised $200 million. Of that, 66% comes from fresh donors. 170,000 new volunteers have signed up, Rob Flaherty, Harris’ deputy campaign manager, wrote on X. According to a poll conducted by Reuters/Ipsos this past week, Harris and Trump are virtually tied, paving the way for a fierce campaign in the final 100 days of the election.
Early in July, the Trump campaign reported raising $331 million in the second quarter—a sum greater than the $264 million raised during the same time frame by Biden’s campaign and its Democratic allies. At the end of June, the Democratic campaign had $240 million in cash, compared to $284.9 million for Trump’s campaign. Most DNC delegates have endorsed Harris, virtually guaranteeing her nomination as the party’s presidential candidate for the upcoming month.
