Got a Package From Dubai? Robot Begins Delivering During a Three-Month Trial

In the United Arab Emirates, the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ) and logistics behemoth Aramex are conducting pilot testing for an upgraded multi-cabin delivery robot that can deliver to multiple customers in a single trip. The three-month-long pilot testing started today and is expected to reach full operational status by September.

It is anticipated that the delivery robot’s multi-cabin capability will cut carbon emissions by more than 500 kg over the course of three months when compared to earlier single-cabin bots. It will first cover Dubai Silicon Oasis’s Cedre Villas community (DSO). It is anticipated that the robot will carry more than 1,000 packages to clients in the neighbourhood on its own. Other economic zones, such as the Dubai Airport Freezone and Dubai CommerCity, are planned to be added to the DIEZ.

To ensure safety and security, residents anticipating Aramex packages will receive a secure pin code. Additionally, a mobile outlet located at Cedre Shopping Centre will oversee the robot operations and enable continuous loading and unloading.

The bot also includes various elements of the human-bot interface, a depth camera, and 360-degree video coverage. Eight sections for varying parcel sizes and a replaceable battery pack are two more design elements.
