France Grounds Plane Carrying More than 300 Indian Nationals Over Human Trafficking Suspicion

France grounds a Nicaragua-bound plane carrying more than 300 Indian passengers over human trafficking suspicion. According to sources in the Ministry of External Affairs, the flight has received clearance from the French judge to fly out of the country.

The French judges are keen to send the Indians back as quickly as possible. The passengers will likely fly back on December 26. According to MEA sources, “There is a technical issue related to chartered flights which have permission only to fly up to Dubai and no permission for India.”

The authorities have two action plans with them which are “One plan is Indians go by same flight and the second option is to send by commercial Air India flight and question will be the payments of tickets. The local mission is exploring both options to send them by this Romanian flight directly to India by getting permission or send by Air India. Permission to fly to Delhi is unlikely, and another problem is logistics from Varty to Paris. Indian Embassy strongly recommended their deportation to India,”

Initially, the flight was detained after an anonymous tipoff saying the passengers aboard the plane were “likely to be victims of human trafficking.” Paris prosecutors said. Nicaragua is a popular illegal route to get into the USA after the Mexican route was closed.
