Dubai is set to witness significant traffic relief with the Garn Al Sabkha-Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed roads intersection improvement project, which is now halfway through completion, announced by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) on Sunday. The Dubai road improvement initiative aims to enhance key corridors, including routes towards Sharjah, and is part of a broader plan to upgrade Garn Al Sabkha Street, linking Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed roads.

The project involves the construction of four bridges spanning nearly 3km, contributing to a substantial reduction in travel time. Once completed, the road improvement is expected to cut journey time by 40% for traffic heading from Garn Al Sabkha Street to Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road, particularly towards Al Qusais and Sharjah.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at RTA, highlighted the project’s impact on peak-hour travel times, stating, “It will slash the peak-hour journey times from 20 minutes to just 12. It will also diminish the journey time by 70 per cent — from 21 minutes to seven — for traffic going from Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road to Al Yalayis Road towards Jebel Ali Port.”

The four bridges include one at the intersection of Garn Al Sabkha and Al Asayel streets, facilitating traffic flow between Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed roads. Another bridge serves westbound traffic from Garn Al Sabkha Street towards Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road, leading to Al Qusais and Sharjah. The third eliminates overlapping traffic from Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road heading northwards towards Al Yalayis Road, directing towards Jebel Ali Port. Lastly, the fourth addresses traffic overlap from Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road to the service road leading to the entrances of Dubai Production City.

This road improvement project aligns with Dubai’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure, ensuring smoother traffic flow, and reducing travel times for the benefit of residents and commuters.
