Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) completed the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road traffic improvements, which included the surface expansion of Exit 55 leading to Al Rebat Street. The 600 meters of work included adding a new lane to increase the number of lanes to three and extending the traffic overlap distance. This action is a part of RTA’s attempts to increase traffic safety and the road network’s capacity in Dubai under the emirate’s observed urbanization and population growth.
The direct improvement in traffic safety and the 50% increase in the exit’s capacity from 3,000 to 4,500 vehicles per hour—from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Al Rebat Street—underline the importance of this surface expansion on Exit 55. Additionally, it reduces the travel time from Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road to Al Rebat Street in the direction of Business Bay Crossing by 60%, from 10 minutes to 4 minutes.
Al Rebat Street’s traffic expansion off Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road is one of the 45 locations in Dubai that will be included in RTA’s 2024 improvement projects. These upgrades promote Dubai’s sustainable development and raise citizens’ contentment and quality of life, making Dubai.
