Beginning on June 15, Outdoor Workers Will have a Midday Break: UAE Ministry

One of the main components of the nation’s labor market laws is The Break, which has been in place for 20 years. Its goal is to safeguard employees from potential summertime injuries by creating a safe work environment that complies with occupational health and safety standards and best practices.

Implementing the Midday Break has become a deeply ingrained culture in the UAE’s business community and among private-sector companies in the country, given its role in ensuring the health and safety of workers, whom we consider to be the most valuable resource of any company,” stated Mohsin Al Nassi, Assistant Undersecretary for Inspection Affairs at the MoHRE.

The necessity to preserve continuity in some jobs that impact the community as a whole is taken into consideration by the midday break. For technical reasons, some jobs that must continue without interruption are excluded from implementing the decision. These include pouring concrete or laying asphalt, if they cannot be put off until after the Break.

The tasks required to reduce risks or fix damages that impact the neighborhood, like stopping the water or electricity supply, stopping traffic, or causing other significant problems with essential services, are also on the list. Because of their effect on services and traffic flow, the work that needs a permit from a government agency to be carried out is also excluded.
