After defeating the reigning champions 1-0 on Friday, Al-Shabab put further strain on Al-Ittihad coach Nuno Santo. As a result of the loss, the Jeddah giants are in risk of missing out on the championship since they had lost all five of their previous games in the Saudi League.
Before the match in Riyadh, Al-Ittihad trailed leaders Al-Hilal by 11 points, who had previously beaten Al-Shabab exert 2-0. Following their most recent setback, the gap has remained as well.
The Portuguese manager reportedly has two games left to preserve his job due to the recent decline in performance and results. What happens next is still to be seen, but following this loss, Ittihad’s title defense is definitely in jeopardy.
As his team continues to sit in sixth place in the standings, the former Tottenham Hotspur manager, who guided the squad to the title in such spectacular fashion the previous season, is starting to seem increasingly helpless. “We had the game under control, but we lost focus,” Santo stated. We created opportunities but were unable to seize them.
After 14 minutes, Carlos Junior gave Al-Shabab the lead. Under new coach Igor Biscan, the team is attempting to bounce back from a dismal start to the season.
Following a curling cross from the right by Fawaz Al-Saqour, the Brazilian was able to sneak past two yellow-shirted players and hit a header past Marcelo Grohe’s diving save into the bottom corner.
