In response to the recent extreme weather events, the local environmental charity Emirates Nature-WWF is directing volunteer efforts from the community to support flood recovery, increase rural communities’ UAE resilience, and implement climate adaptation measures at strategic locations where the charity works with local governments to implement a portfolio of conservation projects.
For the next three weeks, all community mobilization events planned as part of the nonprofit organization’s popular Leaders of Change program will be accessible to the public. These events will focus on cleaning and restoring affected rural areas to climate-proof them against future storms, flash floods, and inundations.
Laila Mostafa Abdullatif, Director General of Emirates Nature-WWF, said, “People across the UAE have demonstrated the power of community, coming together at this challenging time to support one another.” “We aim to strengthen the resilience of rural communities that we work closely with on local conservation projects around climate mitigation & adaptation, preservation of nature, and food & water security by channeling our Leaders of Change and community volunteering efforts towards recovery.
To support carbon capture, climate adaptation, and biodiversity preservation while also bolstering local food security and providing alternative income for rural communities, Emirates Nature-WWF is focusing its conservation efforts on agroecology principles and implementing Nature-based Solutions throughout rural communities in the United Arab Emirates.
