A Hotel Room Costs Dh8,000 per Night in Some of the UAE as a Result of Residents being left Stranded by Floods.

After Tuesday’s record-breaking downpour, which caused some homes to flood and key roads to close, some companies in Dubai increased the price of hotel rooms, forcing tourists and residents to spend more than usual for lodging.

Residents whose homes were damaged by flooding were forced to relocate into hotels as rescue and cleanup operations spanned the entire city, causing tensions between visitors and locals.

To be honest, it isn’t very comforting to be in this scenario. I frequent Dubai often since I adore being here. However, I believe it is dishonest for companies to try to capitalize on people’s suffering and it tarnishes the reputation of an otherwise fantastic city. “We’re unable to leave even if we wanted to, due to the exorbitant prices,” stated 41-year-old Mona Ireland, a former UAE resident who arrived in Dubai less than a week ago on vacation and reserved a hotel in Motor City to be near her relatives.

Before the storm, I checked with my hotel about possibly prolonging my stay. She continued, “There was lots of availability, so an extension shouldn’t be an issue. “I spoke with reception on Wednesday, the day before check-out, and they informed me that the hotel is now fully booked because of the floods and people needing to move into hotels.”

Ireland has received quotes for ordinary hotel rooms, which typically start at about Dh345 per night. After calling numerous hotels throughout the city, the prices range from Dh1,000 to Dh8,000 per night.
