US: An Indian Student Who was Turned Away From a Nightclub Freezes to Death

According to police officials, Akul Dhawan, an Indian-origin student at Illinois University, passed away last month after freezing to death next to a club that denied him admittance while out on the town with pals.

The parents of the 18-year-old Indian-American student have questioned the University of Illinois Police about their search and the protocol they followed, and they have filed a complaint with them.

The parents of Akul Dhawan feel that University police did not follow the missing search rules and that no search was done in the area of the Busey-Evans Residence Hall. They charged negligence on the part of the University of Illinois Police.

Akul Dhawan’s parents stated in an open letter published in The News-Gazette, “As parents, we seek answers. We have formally complained to the UI police. We would want to ask the police and university representatives the following questions: At 2:09 in the morning, the Busey-Evans Residence Hall was reportedly searched by the police.”

In a news release earlier on January 31, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign stated that the University of Illinois Police are still looking into the circumstances surrounding the death of student Akul Dhawan on January 20.
