Two People Were Imprisoned in Sharjah for Discarding Hazardous Waste

Two Asians were sentenced to one month in jail by the Sharjah Court of First Instance for disposing of rubbish in areas that weren’t designated and for failing to pay the court’s costs. The case’s details stem from the moment the Police Operations Room received a report that a fire had broken out in 18th Industrial Zone trash that contained hazardous ingredients.

After the police detained two suspects, the Public Prosecution questioned them and they admitted to committing the crime. They also stated that they were employed by a company that produced chemical detergents, one of which was in charge of manufacturing.

They also said they wanted to eliminate the rubbish, so they drove the official’s car to the fire scene and dumped it there. In addition, they acknowledged knowing that the garbage contained chemicals that were dangerous to people.

Salem Obaid Sahoo, the attorney for the two suspects, stated that he asked for their acquittal; however, upon proving that they started the fire, the court sentenced them to one month in jail by the Criminal Procedure and the Federal Crimes and Penal Code.
