'No Diplomatic Connections' with Israel, According to Saudi Arabia, Until There is an Independent Palestinian State

In a statement released on Wednesday, Saudi Arabia stated that unless an independent Palestinian state is acknowledged on the 1967 boundaries, including East Jerusalem, and Israeli “aggression” on the Gaza Strip ceases, diplomatic ties with Israel will be terminated.

The Saudi Arabian Foreign Ministry’s X account also released the statement, which read as follows:

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that regarding the discussions between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States of America on the Arab-Israeli peace process, and in light of what has been attributed to the US National Security Spokesperson, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirms that the position of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has always been steadfast on the Palestinian issue and the necessity that the brotherly Palestinian people obtain their legitimate rights.”

John Kirby, the spokesperson for national security at the White House, stated on Tuesday that the Biden administration has heard encouraging reports that Israel and Saudi Arabia are open to carrying on with normalization talks.
