UN head asks everyone to pay attention to the “epic humanitarian catastrophe” occurring in Gaza.

UN head asks everyone to pay attention to the "epic humanitarian catastrophe" occurring in Gaza.

A “far greater” number of children have been killed by Israel in Gaza in the last few weeks of the conflict, according to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, than have been killed “during any year, by any party to a conflict since I became secretary-general,” he said on Wednesday.

In front of the entire world, the people of Gaza are experiencing “an epic humanitarian catastrophe.” We can’t turn a blind eye,” he continued.

Again highlighting the necessity for “a true humanitarian ceasefire,” Guterres expressed his appreciation for the ongoing, impromptu conversations aimed at prolonging the ceasefire in the conflict.

Giving the people of the region “a horizon of hope” through efforts to advance in a “determined and irreversible” approach toward a two-state solution, he declared during a Security Council meeting.

He continued, saying that failure would consign Israelis, Palestinians, the region, and the entire world to an endless cycle of devastation and death.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi presided over the high-level Security Council meeting, which was held on the yearly International Day for Solidarity with the Palestinian People, which is organized by the UN. This month, China is leading the 15-member council by rotation.
