CEMEX UAE announced today that it will be contributing with its paving solution in the development of the topside infrastructure for its cutting-edge CMA Terminals Khalifa Port. CEMEX will be providing over 200K m3 of Vertua CBGM Concrete to be used in paving with a continuous flow plant at site. This CBGM (Cement Bound Granular Material) will achieve up to 60% CO2 reduction vs traditional paving concrete, by using blended cement and recycled material in the mix for the first time in the country.

The agreement between AD Ports & China Harbour Engineering Company includes the development of the first net zero carbon administration building to be constructed for the joint venture. The award-winning administration building, which won the Net Zero Design Building Project of the Year in October, will be a highly energy-efficient building that is powered from renewable energy sources and offsets.

In addition, the agreement will see the development of 28 office and utilities across the terminal, more than 1 million m2 of yard paving, reefer stacks, STS cranes and access roads.

“We are proud to be taking an active role in supporting the implementation of UAE vision 2030 and be part of iconic sustainable projects in the country. The UAE vision is aligned with CEMEX Climate Action program “Future in Action” and this encourages us to avail our technology, Innovation and solutions for the progress of the country’s vision.” says Rafael Villalona, Country Director of CEMEX UAE. “CEMEX is always keen to provide innovative solutions to cater its customers’ need of being at the forefront of a lower carbon industry.”

Vertua is CEMEX’s portfolio of products and solutions that are more sustainable by design and contribute to decarbonizing the built environment and building a better, more sustainable future for all.  Vertua represents one of the pillars of the company’s climate action program “Future in Action”. The program aims to achieve sustainable excellence through climate action, circularity, and natural resource management with the primary objective of becoming a net-zero CO2 company. Through Future in Action, CEMEX has achieved record-breaking progress in reducing its carbon footprint during recent years.
