Jordan's King and Biden Discuss Efforts for a Ceasefire in Gaza

The two nations announced that US President Joe Biden and King Abdullah of Jordan had a conversation on Friday during which they talked about the efforts to bring an end to the terrible Gaza conflict.

The White House said, “The president updated King Abdullah on his ongoing efforts to secure a ceasefire and hostage release, as well as preparations for a surge in humanitarian assistance during a ceasefire period.”

King Abdullah “emphasised the need to end the war on Gaza immediately and ensure the flow of sufficient aid through all crossings, while guaranteeing its delivery to civilians across the Strip without delay or hindrance,” according to the royal court of Jordan, which confirmed the call.

According to an AFP count based on official Israeli figures, Hamas’s shocking October 7 attack, which claimed 1,197 lives in Israel—the majority of them civilians—set off more than nine months of fighting in Gaza.

Militants also took numerous hostages that day. Of the 251 people taken into custody, 111 remain in Gaza, 39 of whom the military claims are deceased. The health ministry of the Hamas-run territory reports that at least 39,175 Palestinians have died in Gaza as a result of Israel’s retaliatory offensive against the group.

The news site Axios stated that CIA Director Bill Burns was scheduled to meet with Israeli, Qatari, and Egyptian officials on Sunday in Rome to discuss the matter, as the United States is attempting to end the conflict.
