With a comprehensive agenda aimed at fostering critical thinking and revealing the intricate wonders of the universe, the Sharjah Public Library (SPL) pavilion at the ongoing 15th edition of the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF) has become a hive of activity, educating and entertaining children of all ages and their parents.
Among the exciting exercises, the ‘Silent Book’ workshop opens children’s imaginations in a novel way by using illustrations and pictures to tell the story; this way, they can interpret it without relying on written words. In the meantime, kids are guided towards conscientious and responsible video gaming through the ‘Digital Awareness’ workshop. Children learn how to use the internet safely through a short film presentation and interactive workshops, focusing on the significance of exercising caution when interacting with strangers on the internet.
Workshops for creative writing In the ‘Creative Writing Stations’ workshop, kids go through five real-world stations: I Read, I Observe, I Think, I Plan, and I Design. Children can read and discuss stories at each station. After that, in practical workshops, they use what they’ve learned to hone their creative abilities further.
For kids who dream of a world full of superheroes, the Superhero Workshop offers an exciting adventure for fans of “Dragon Ball” and “Grendizer.” Here, through colourful comic stories, they learn how to develop their own original superhero characters. During the ‘Bee Waxing’ workshop, kids explore the fascinating world of bees, gain knowledge about the qualities and uses of beeswax, practise creativity and perfection through drawing, and improve their fine motor skills. They also learn about the historical and cultural significance of beeswax in various global cultures.
