IPL2024: Iyer Calls The Spinners "Unreal," as KKR Breaks the 12-Year Wankhede the Jinx

At the Wankhede Stadium on Friday, Mitchell Starc returned to peak form with a four-wicket haul as the Kolkata Knight Riders defeated the Mumbai Indians, the defending champions, by 24 runs to snap a 12-year losing streak.

Melbourne’s attempt to reach the 170 target was unsuccessful, with 24 runs, as Australian pacer Starc recovered from a bad start and took four wickets at 33 runs. With seven balls remaining, Mumbai was out of the game.

Kolkata, now second in the IPL standings, scored 169 runs in their first innings, thanks to Venkatesh Iyer’s brilliant 70 runs in just 52 balls. Mumbai, which currently occupies ninth place, will not make the playoffs.

“At this moment, we are [knocking on the door]. According to Shreyas Iyer, if we had lost today, a lot of thought would have gone into that. We specifically benefited from this Impact player rule in this game. From the very first game, Manish (Pandey) has been spotting opportunities.

The MI captain stated, “Obviously, we could not form partnerships and were losing wickets.” It will take time to address many of the questions. But not much to say just yet. The bowlers performed admirably on this track. It seemed like the wicket was improving. In the second inning, Dew arrived.
