In the Indian Premier League on Friday, Punjab Kings defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by eight wickets, setting a record for the most successful run chase in T20 history thanks to an unbeaten century from Jonny Bairstow.
In hot and muggy conditions at the Eden Gardens, the England player crushed Kolkata’s 261 for six wickets with eight balls remaining after he hit nine sixes and eight fours in his 48-ball innings of 108. Along with his impressive runscoring performance, Shashank Singh struck eight sixes and two fours in his 68 not out off of 28 balls.
In 2023, South Africa achieved the highest run chase in Twenty20 history, surpassing the West Indies’ 258 for five.
