UAE: Could You go a Week Without Eating Meat? Hospitals and Schools are Increasingly Observing “Meatless Mondays”

UAE: Could You go a Week Without Eating Meat? Hospitals and Schools are Increasingly Observing "Meatless Mondays."

It’s no secret that reducing meat consumption is environmentally beneficial. But for a lot of us, the thought of becoming strictly vegetarian or vegan seems like asking for too much.

For this exact reason, Tolga Soytekin, the creator of the plant-based food company Bare Foods Global, was eager to introduce the Meatless Monday initiative to the Middle Eastern market.

The movement, which was started in the USA more than 20 years ago and is currently being followed worldwide, urges people to abstain from meat on Mondays to improve their health and wellbeing as well as the environment. The schools tell us that some kids don’t notice the difference. Comfort foods are also a great way for parents to start introducing Meatless Mondays at home too.

It’s not like that in the US and Europe, where every school makes its own cuisine. Thus, we collaborate closely with other caterers every Monday to offer school plant-based options.

Ben’s Farmhouse was our first catering partner; we collaborated with brands like Compass Group and Abu Dhabi National Hotels (ADNH). Since Birmingham University Dubai has a large population of vegan and vegetarian faculty members and students, the head of catering there also contacted us.
