UAE's First Synthetic Aperture Radar Satellite is Launched by Bayanat and Yahsat.

In collaboration with ICEYE, a pioneer in SAR satellite operations for earth observation, persistent monitoring, and natural disaster solutions, Bayanat AI PLC (ADX: BAYANAT), a leading provider of AI-powered geospatial solutions, and Al Yah Satellite Communications Company PJSC (ADX: Yahsat), the UAE’s flagship satellite solutions provider, announced on Saturday the successful launch of their first Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite into orbit on August 16, 2024.

An important step towards strengthening Earth Observation capabilities for the companies and the region is the launch of the UAE’s first SAR satellite. This satellite introduces the comprehensive SAR constellation that will provide high-resolution, long-term monitoring solutions as part of the Earth Observation Space Programme. The satellite will make use of SAR technology, an active sensing system that produces high-resolution images by illuminating the Earth’s surface and measuring the reflected signal. SAR satellites, in contrast to conventional optical imaging satellites, are able to take pictures day or night, in any weather, with any amount of solar illumination. Customers receive greater value from ICEYE’s radar antenna since it covers a larger geographical area and produces higher-resolution images of smaller areas than other new Space SAR satellite services.
