UAE will acquire the first net-zero energy mosque in the area

A senior official revealed that Masdar City, an innovative hub and sustainable urban community in UAE Abu Dhabi, will soon house the first net-zero energy mosque in the area.

Mohamed Al Breiki, the executive director of sustainable development at Masdar City, stated, “We have designed and created several net-zero energy projects, but this one has particular significance for us and for me personally – particularly given we’re announcing it during COP28.”

The building of a net-zero energy mosque is scheduled to begin construction at Masdar City in the upcoming year, in addition to three other sustainability initiatives.

It will serve as more than just a hub for the community, a place of worship, or a gathering spot. It will take visitors on an environmental, spiritual, and cultural journey and act as a potent symbol of our dedication to being good stewards of the planet. Our gift to the community is this mosque.

With 1,590 square meters of on-site photovoltaic panels, the 2,349 square meter building—which can accommodate 1,300 worshipers—will be able to generate all of the energy required for the building in a year or less.
