Unsettled weather is continuing across the UAE, with rain expected in the north and east of the country on Wednesday, strong gusts in some areas and a chance of fog as the night turns humid.
What the forecast says
The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) predicts convective clouds, which are normally linked to rainfall, forming over northern and eastern parts of the country. Elsewhere, skies are expected to be fair to partly cloudy.
For Dubai, the day looks cooler and less humid than earlier in the week. The Emirates 24|7 daily forecast flagged rain in Fujairah and Kalba. Arabian Business reported that the rainy spell is forecast to continue until Friday.
Temperatures
Highs are forecast to reach 35°C in Abu Dhabi and 36°C in Dubai and Sharjah. Overnight lows are expected at 26°C in Abu Dhabi, 27°C in Dubai and 24°C in Sharjah. Those readings are warm for late October but well below the peaks of summer.
Wind and dust
Residents should expect gusty conditions. Strong winds may reach 50 km/h, causing blowing dust. Tuesday’s forecast already pointed in that direction. Dust gusts of up to 45 km/h were expected alongside rain across several regions.
Blowing dust can cut visibility on highways and desert roads. It can also irritate eyes and airways. People who spend long periods outdoors, or who have breathing sensitivities, may want to limit exposure when gusts pick up.
Humid nights and morning fog
The NCM says it will be humid by night and on Thursday morning over some coastal and inland areas, especially in the west, with a chance of fog or mist. Early commuters should be ready for reduced visibility.
Staying safe on the road
Authorities in the UAE routinely give the same guidance in conditions like these, and it is worth repeating:
- Reduce speed and increase the distance between vehicles when roads are wet or visibility is poor.
- Use dipped headlights in fog and avoid hazard lights while moving.
- Avoid wadis and low-lying areas in the north and east, where rainwater can collect quickly.
- Check official channels for weather alerts before travelling.
Protecting your home
Heavy showers also raise practical household concerns. Dubai Electricity and Water Authority recently shared five steps to protect a home’s electrical system during rain. Residents of older properties or villas with exposed outdoor wiring may want to review those steps.
A wetter-than-usual stretch
Rain in October is not unusual in the UAE’s eastern and northern areas, where the Hajar Mountains help trigger convection. What stands out this week is how long the pattern is expected to last. For many residents, the rain is a welcome break after a long, hot season. For drivers and outdoor workers, it is a reminder to plan carefully.
Forecasts can change quickly in convective conditions, and localised downpours may appear with little warning. Check the NCM’s updates through the day, especially if you are travelling between emirates.
