UAE: Unlicensed Social Media Influencers in Abu Dhabi will Face a Dh10,000 Fine as of July.

According to the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED), social media influencers and businesses that advertise and provide advertising services without a license will face penalties starting on July 1. Penalties could reach Dh10,000, and they might even force the companies to close.

According to the Department, licenses can be easily obtained through the Tamm platform by going to the ‘Department of Economic Development Services and choosing the activities you want to do, such as offering advertising services on e-platforms.

According to ADDED, foreign nationals can also apply for a license if they possess an Emirates ID card or unified number. This ruling also covers government agencies that use electronic platforms to advertise their services Additionally, the department influencers still need to obtain licenses even with permits from the National Media Council.

There are currently 543 license holders using social media and electronic platforms to provide advertising services, and once the decision takes effect, more license holders are anticipated.

Before now, all emirate-licensed companies were expected to abide by rules regarding collaborations with social media influencers. According to the Department of Economic Development, those who disobey will face closure or fines of up to Dh10,000 or more.
