UAE to Impose Penalties and Regulations on Cold Calling; locals Share Their most Irksome Experiences

Residents of the UAE are still bothered by unsolicited sales calls, despite efforts to stop the practice. The government has tightened rules regarding cold calling and will soon be enacting penalties.

For Allaine Galvez, a resident of Dubai, the experience of receiving one-off calls from marketers was quite extreme: She received calls from a “forex trading guy” for roughly four months.

Galvez, who is currently in charge of an HR department, initially believed that was the end of it, but the man kept calling, using different numbers. “He kept asking if I had already found a job and if I was interested in investing.”
Laws in the UAE might outlaw these kinds of activities.

A decision to control cold calling was approved by the Cabinet earlier this week. The Dubai Media Office released a statement stating that obligations and guidelines for telemarketing practices would be established for companies.

It further stated that infractions will result in penalties. The regulations will be enforced through a joint effort between federal and local authorities.
