Following a horrific fire that occurred in Sharjah’s Al Nahda district on Thursday night, a Filipina expat was confirmed dead. At the same time, her husband is in intensive care, the Philippine Consulate-General (PCG) in Dubai told Khaleej Times on Saturday.
According to the mission, ten other Filipino residents of the same building are receiving medical attention.
The PCG continued, “To ensure that all impacted Filipinos receive the support they need during this difficult time, the consulate is coordinating with local authorities and community leaders.”
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and pray for the swift recovery of her husband, as well as the other ten injured Filipinos who are receiving the necessary medical attention.”
The Sharjah Police report that a fire broke out at a residential high-rise building in Al Nahda on Thursday night, leaving five people dead and 44 injured.
Suffocation was thought to be the cause of the deaths. According to the Sharjah Police, of those injured, 27 were released from the hospital shortly after receiving treatment, and 17 are still in the hospital.
