The United Arab Emirates is constructing an effective rainwater drainage network, enlarging dam capacities, and fixing roads damaged by last month’s extraordinary rainfall and floods.
Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, the UAE’s Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, inspected the eastern coast’s roads, dams, and other locations. The tour was conducted in response to the unprecedented rainfall.
Reviewing the status of the rehabilitation efforts in these areas and enhancing the effectiveness of the roads and dams was the goal of the tour. According to him, the residents’ safety and the security of their belongings came first.
Al Mazrouei also mentioned the rock berm project, which offers an innovative and long-term fix for roads on the eastern coast that are not designed for the future.
The Minister stated that preparations are underway for a comprehensive analysis of the need for dam expansion. The Ministry is developing the infrastructure and making it more resilient to rain and floods in partnership with its strategic partners. Creating an effective network for rainwater drainage and strengthening dams’ ability to hold large amounts of water are two examples of this.
Owing to the exceptional amount of precipitation that the nation encountered in April, the 103 dams and lakes under the management of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure were able to hold 40 million cubic meters between them, which is equivalent to half of their total storage capacity of 80 million cubic meters.
