As part of a deal with the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the United Arab Emirates has donated $5 million to support the Sudan Humanitarian Fund (SHF).
This support for OCHA comes from a $70 million donation by the nation to UN agencies and humanitarian organizations to address Sudan’s immediate humanitarian needs.
A $5 million donation from the nation has also been made to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), specifically for the project “Mitigating Famine in Sudan Support to Conflict-Affected Vulnerable Smallholder Farming and Pastoralist Households.
The one-year FAO project will benefit approximately 1,375,000 people. It will help 275,000 vulnerable smallholder farmers and pastoralist households with emergency crop, livestock, and veterinary assistance.
A significant amount of the $100 million pledge made by the UAE at the “International Humanitarian Conference for Sudan and Neighbouring Countries” in April is being funded by this source.
The goal of these allocations is to stop the famine in Sudan, and we must do everything within our power to do so,” Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Lana Nusseibeh stated. Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Ministry for Political Affairs.
