UAE Announces Powerful Four-Day Public Holiday for Arafat Day and Eid Al Adha 2025...

UAE  has officially announced a four-day public holiday to mark Arafat Day and Eid Al Adha 2025, creating a wave of excitement across the nation.

The long weekend, stretching from Thursday, June 5 to Sunday, June 8, offers residents and citizens a valuable opportunity to rest, reflect, and reconnect with their families and communities. Work is set to resume on Monday, June 9, making this one of the most anticipated holiday periods of the year.

This announcement comes in alignment with the Islamic lunar calendar, following the sighting of the crescent moon that marks the start of the sacred Hajj pilgrimage season. UAE Arafat Day, which falls on Dhul Hijjah 9, is considered the holiest day in the Islamic calendar. It commemorates the pivotal moment when Prophet Ibrahim stood on the Plain of Arafat and delivered his final sermon. For pilgrims performing Hajj, standing on Mount Arafat in prayer and contemplation is the spiritual high point of their journey. In the UAE and other Muslim-majority countries, the day holds deep religious significance even for those not undertaking the pilgrimage.

The following three days are dedicated to UAE Eid Al Adha, or the “Festival of Sacrifice,” which honors the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim and his willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command. The holiday symbolizes selflessness, faith, and generosity. Families celebrate Eid by gathering for communal prayers, sharing meals, distributing meat to the less fortunate, and spending quality time together. The occasion also fosters a sense of unity across diverse communities, as people from various nationalities and cultures come together in celebration.

The decision to grant a four-day public holiday reflects the UAE leadership’s continued commitment to enhancing the well-being of its people. Such breaks are designed not only to honor religious observances but also to promote mental health, work-life balance, and family cohesion. With the extended weekend, many residents are already planning staycations, domestic travel, and wellness retreats to take advantage of the time off. Travel agencies and hospitality providers have reported a spike in inquiries and bookings, with both city-based and nature-friendly destinations gaining popularity.

Retail outlets, shopping malls, and entertainment venues are also preparing for a surge in foot traffic during the holiday period. Major brands are expected to roll out seasonal offers, Eid promotions, and festive experiences that cater to families and tourists alike. From themed dining options to cultural events and fireworks displays, the holiday period is likely to be marked by a vibrant atmosphere across all emirates.

Beyond leisure, the occasion also sparks a surge in charitable activities. Many individuals and organizations in the UAE use Eid Al Adha as an opportunity to support those in need by sponsoring meat distribution, organizing community meals, and donating essentials. Local charities have already begun mobilizing volunteers and resources to ensure that underprivileged families can share in the joy of the festival. This spirit of giving aligns with the UAE’s broader humanitarian ethos and longstanding tradition of philanthropy.

In the days leading up to the holiday, places of worship and community centers across the country are expected to see increased activity. Special sermons and programs will focus on the significance of Arafat Day and the message of Eid. Religious scholars often emphasize values such as compassion, humility, and reflection during this period, encouraging individuals to strengthen their spiritual connection and moral commitments.

For public sector employees, the unified holiday schedule provides clarity and allows for coordinated celebrations across ministries, schools, and government institutions. Many private companies also align their holiday policies with official announcements, although some sectors—such as healthcare, hospitality, aviation, and emergency services—will maintain essential operations through rotating shifts to ensure continuity of service.

As is customary, the UAE’s transport authorities are set to release updated schedules and guidelines to accommodate the expected increase in travel during the holiday period. Roads and Transport Authorities in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and other emirates are preparing special plans to manage traffic flow around popular destinations, malls, and prayer grounds. Public transport services are likely to run extended hours, and additional routes may be introduced to ease the movement of people attending Eid gatherings or visiting family members.

Airports across the country are also gearing up for higher passenger volumes. In past years, Eid holidays have seen thousands of travelers flying out to regional hotspots or returning home to celebrate with loved ones. Enhanced immigration counters, baggage handling systems, and customer service teams are being deployed to ensure a smooth travel experience. Authorities are advising passengers to arrive early and check flight schedules frequently to avoid delays or congestion.

On the economic front, the holiday is expected to deliver a temporary boost to retail, hospitality, and tourism sectors. Restaurants are offering special Eid menus, resorts are launching promotional packages, and malls are organizing entertainment shows tailored for families. The UAE economic uplift from consumer spending during Eid often translates into a positive ripple effect, benefiting small businesses and service providers throughout the country.
