UAE: More than 160 people will convene to debate fatwas pertaining to scientific advancements.

According to a senior official, the UAE  Council for Fatwa’s International Conference will set the stage for the adoption of creative and adaptable methods that adhere to Islamic Sharia and offer a roadmap for fatwas addressing scientific and technical advancements.

Under the patronage of Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, and under the direction of Abdullah bin Bayyah, the Council Chairman, the two-day conference will begin on Tuesday.

Towards Shari’a Conceptualization of Scientific Developments: Civilizational Methodology, Real-World Applications, and Ethics of Sustainability is the title of this year’s conference.

A special session titled “Towards a disciplined and sustainable methodology that interacts with human needs” will be included, along with a discussion on new developments in artificial intelligence, medicine, families, the environment, and sustainability ethics.

Director General of the UAE Council for Fatwa Dr. Omar Habtoor Al Darei stated that the conference was held in response to the declaration made by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, that 2023 will be the “Year of Sustainability.” It will cover concerns brought up by scientific advancement, which are thought to be among the most significant modern challenges that scholars of Sharia and professionals in many natural sciences should discuss. The transplantation of a pig’s heart into a human body is one of them.
